Changing Beloit
When: Friday, October 11, 2013 1-3pm
Where: 1st Congregational Church

Beloit has undergone considerable changes in the past 50 years. Jeff Adams, economics professor at Beloit College, will document the significant changes in this time period and take a look at what may be on the city’s horizon.  Special attention will be given to the purposeful changes envisioned by Beloit 2020, a private sector civic organization consisting of the principle decision makers of the largest employers in the Beloit area. The Beloit 2020 vision has already helped transform the city’s acclaimed Riverfront landscape. How this is carrying over into the revitalization of Beloit’s City Center will be explored along with plans for future local development.
In recognition of the 50th Reunion festivities of the Beloit Memorial Class of 1963, The Society for Learning Unlimited (better known as SLU), a nonprofit town-gown organization of Beloit College, is presenting this program on the afternoon of Friday, October 11th, at 1-3 PM. The presentation will be held in the community room of First Congregational Church (801 Bushnell Street, Beloit). SLU offers a wide-ranging series of cultural and educational programs to Stateline residents 55 years and older, normally for a fee of $6.00 per session. As a gracious gesture to the Class of 1963, there will be no charge for the “Changing Beloit” presentation.
Pro-Am Putting Tournament
When: Friday, October 11, 2013 at 4:30 pm
Where: Krueger-Haskell Putting Green

Not a golfer either? But you do knew what a green, a putter and a ball were. That’s all it took to enter the Amateur Division of The ’63 Classic Pro-Am Putting Tournament held October 11 during our Friday Night “Best Were Free in ’63 Get-Together” at the Krueger-Haskell Municipal Golf Course. Amateurs played “best of five” from predetermined locations – each 6’ 3” inches from the cup. Carol Gilbertson Jacobsen took home a prized trophy – The ’63 Classic Purple Knight Cup – and got a free sandwich or drink in the Clubhouse.
And for real golfers? The Pro Division champion, John Laage, received a certificate from Krueger-Haskell for a free round of golf (18 holes complete with cart) plus a mammoth, 1 liter beer mug straight from Munich’s Oktoberfest.
