October 28, 1944 Retired Married 2
Editor's note: Dick unfortunately has passed away since our 50th reunion.

As most know I was in the Class of 1963 but received my dipolma a little later.  I served in the US Navy aboard the SSBN617 Alexander Hamilton, a nuclear submarine.  After return to Beloit and working for a few mfg. companies I attended Blackhawk Technical Collage and received certification in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning and later owned Dick's Refrigeration and Appliance Repair.

The last few years have been a challenge with some medical issues. Doing much better this year and look forward to visiting with classmates.

I am currently retired and enjoy travelling to Nascar races a few times a year, going to our summer trailer on Lake Mason, hunting and camping with family.

After graduating from BMHS, I went to Beloit College, where I got my undergraduate degree in 1967.  From there I went to the University of California-Berkeley, obtaining a Ph.D. in Anthropology in 1972.  I spent my entire career as a faculty member at Iowa State University.  I taught Anthropology, did research in various parts of Latin America, and we raised our family in Ames.  I had a wonderful career.  After 39 years on the faculty, the last eight years as Dean of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, I retired in June 2011 and my wife (Patty) and I moved to Portland, Oregon, where our three adult children and three grandchildren live.
